Pool Session Policiy

Pool sessions will meet according to the schedule indicated by your registration. Pool sessions will cover the material outlined during the lecture and the material covered in the confined water section of this syllabus. No sharing of equipment will be allowed and no exceptions to this policy will be made. All pool sessions will meet at Florida Pool. Students must show up properly dressed for their in water training.

Attendance at all pool sessions is mandatory for certification eligibility. If certification is desired, no absences are allowed for pool sessions. (Please note that attendance at a session requires that you have the proper equipment necessary for participation in that session.) There will be no unexcused absences in this course. An excused absence is one for which the student presents a medically authenticated document.

Note: The student is responsible for insuring that he/she answers the roll and is marked present for each class. If late, it is the student's responsibility to notify the instructor during that class period, otherwise the absence will stand. No discussions, excuses, or exceptions are appropriate in this regard.

If for any reason a pool session must be missed the student will:

Prerequisite to scuba: Successful Swim Evaluation Experience - Course Eligibility

The following evaluation will take place during the first pool session. Successful completion is necessary in order to continue in the course. At no point during this evaluation are you allowed to use swim aids (mask, snorkel or fins)

  1. Underwater swim of 20 yards, no push off or dive.
  2. 400 yard swim, using the following strokes, 1 Lap each in the order given: crawl, breast, side, elementary backstroke.
  3. 15-minute survival float.
  4. Recover 10 lb. diving brick from deep water (12 feet).
